History

  1. Formerly published as The International Journal of East Asian Studies, the journal was renamed in 2021 to Wilayah: The International Journal of East Asian Studies. The term "Wilayah" is derived from the Malay word for "Region" or "Territory," reflecting the publication's dedicated focus on regional scholarship and discourse.
  2. Since January 2018, The International Journal of East Asian Studies has been published digitally. Current and past issues are accessible through its official online portal: ijeas.um.edu.my.
  3. Since 2021, the journal has been published annually in March. Prior to this change, volumes were released every December.
  4. Effective 2025, Wilayah: The International Journal of East Asian Studies has transitioned its official citation format from footnotes to the APA Style (7th Edition). All new submissions must utilize in-text citations—(Author, Year)— and include a comprehensive reference list at the end of the manuscript.
