The Establishment of Sekolah Harapan Rumah Harapan in Melaka: An Evaluation from the Islamic Perspective

Abstract

This study examines the legal ruling regarding the establishment of Sekolah Harapan Rumah Harapan in Jasin, Melaka. The objective of its establishment is to provide educational opportunities at the secondary level for pregnant students, whether the pregnancy occurred outside of marriage or within a lawful marriage. Accordingly, the evaluation is conducted from an Islamic perspective to determine whether its establishment aligns with the objectives of the Shariah (maqasid al-shariah) or contradicts them. The findings indicate that the establishment of this school helps to safeguard newborn babies while also providing educational opportunities for the mothers. Consequently, the future of the affected students is not jeopardized, and they are able to continue their studies at higher levels more easily.
