Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the methodology of Sisters in Islam’s thought on hijab based on fiqh al-hadith. It is a qualitative study employing historical, documentary, and interview methods to obtain data related to hijab according to the views of Sisters in Islam. A total of 17 hadiths related to hijab from Sahih Muslim were selected as the sample for analysis, using the methods of istiqra’ (inductive analysis) and istinbat (deductive derivation), guided by the views of authoritative scholars. The findings reveal that the methodology adopted by Sisters in Islam regarding hijab differs significantly and, in fact, contradicts the views of mainstream Islamic scholars. Among the approaches applied by Sisters in Islam in understanding the ruling on hijab is a methodology based primarily on rational logic and reasoning, in addition to historical, civilizational, and sociological approaches. As a result of the methodology employed by Sisters in Islam, it is concluded that the only obligatory part of the female body to be covered is the private part, while the rest should be covered according to the standards of modesty and cultural norms of a given society.
